Happy New Year! 2021 is here and so is the time to make New Years Resolutions. Whether you’re a firm believer in making resolutions or not, coming up with some yearly goals for your family can be a great way to start the year. It’s never too early (or too late!) to start these resolutions and expose your children to more literacy in the home!

  1. Read at least 1 book together a day.

An easy way to reach this resolution? Make reading a part of your child’s bedtime routine! Of course, you or your little one can pick up a book at any moment during the day. And some kids might more likely to attend to a book at certain times more than others. If you find your day being filled with a lot of chaos, bedtime gives you that one last chance to sneak in a book!

2. Read a new book each month.

Join The Story Box makes this one a cinch! That’s because handpicked educational books will be sent (with activity/language learning guides attached!) to your doorstep every month. If you can’t make it to the library (or maybe your local library is still closed due to the pandemic), The Story Box has got you covered! New books expose your kids to new vocabulary that they may not experience in daily life otherwise. They hear about new stories that open up discussions about a world of topics and give opportunities to improve your child’s language skills!

3. Create the perfect book nook.

Home improvements or updates might be falling on a lot of people’s list of New Years Resolutions. Why not make one that can improve your child’s language and educational performance by encouraging reading? Search Pinterest or follow your favorite home decorator on social media for ideas. Involve the kids in the planning, shopping, and execution of the perfect book nook – an area of the house (even if only a small cozy corner of their bedroom!) filled with things like pillows, blankets, a soft light, and a basket of their favorite books.

What other reading resolutions can you and your kids come up with for 2021? Whatever your goals, wishing you luck!
