Do the unprecedented (and completely crazy) events of this year have anyone else looking forward to the holidays even more than usual? Holiday baking, shopping, and decorating will be a very welcomed distraction and a chance to focus on so many positives – like spending time with loved ones in whatever way that may be! Not only that, but Christmas always seems to come SO quickly (just 40 more days as of today!). I’m putting together a series of my the gifts for different ages I most highly recommend as a mom and a Speech Therapist. First up – my favorite speech and language promoting gifts for little ones from ages 0-3!
The Story Box Board Book Subscription Package
Of course, my top pick! The Story Box subscription has a board book package that includes 2 board books per month. The books are carefully selected by a certified Speech-Language Pathologist (me!) and include a parent guide that tells you how to use the books and related activity ideas to encourage your child’s speech and language skills. For the busy parent of an infant or toddler, having this educational activity show up at your doorstep monthly is amazing.
Sassy Tummy Time Floor Mirror
This mirror is great for encouraging early social skill development and imitation. Lay next to your child and look into the mirror together as you make different facial expressions and movements with your mouth. You’ll start to see your child imitate those, which means he or she is likely on their way to forming early speech sounds!
Melissa and Doug Sound Puzzles
Often times, children begin to imitate FUN words first, like animal and vehicle sounds! I love Melissa and Doug puzzles like this farm animal one because they teach babies and toddlers cause and effect skills, matching, and encourage them to make sounds!
Toy Kitchen/Food
A toy kitchen and some play food are perfect for encouraging pretend play! It’s also a great way to teach your child vocabulary words, following directions, and imitation.
Happy holiday shopping!
